Synopsis

The Short: Part two of the four part Angel finale. Cordelia arrives on Pylea, the home dimension of the host of Caritas, only to be captured and sold into slavery on a world where humans are treated like cattle. Welsey, Angel, the host and Gunn are unable to follow her immediately, so they do research and prepare. Gunn and the host both refuse to go after Cordelia for their own reasons at first, but eventually join up on the mission. Once they are sure they can safely follow Cordelia they pack up the car, create a portal, and drive through. Angel is pleasantly surprised to learn that the suns of Pylea don't burn vampires. They hide the car and make way to a small town, where they learn the host is not very popular with the locals and all four are arrested, meanwhile Cordelia has a vision and the locals seemed spooked by it, forcing her to take tests to determine if she has a curse. The four are kept in a cell where they await judgement. As they are taken to head of the government to be sentenced they plan to go out fighting together, but the moment they start they notice a friend sitting on the thrown, it's Cordelia dressed as a queen!

1. Cordelia: ''Worth a shot.''
   Clicking her heels together three times while wearing magic ruby slippers is how Dorothy returned home from the land of Oz in the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz. This film was referenced in Belonging by the host, in The Yoko Factor by Willow, in Eternity by Angel, in What's My Line Part 2 by Xander, in The Pack by Buffy, and by Amilyn in Buffy The Vampire Slayer. This film was also the inspiration for the title of No Place Like Home and for the scenes in Fear, Itself and Nightmares. (Thanks to Poppedijn for finding this picture.)
   
   
2. Cordelia: ''Silver lining.''
   This is a reference to the saying ''Every cloud has a silver lining.'' which means every bad event must have some good that comes of it too.
   
   
3. Cordelia: ''You're like Hindu right? You don't eat the cows?''
   Hinduism is the Western term for the religious beliefs and practices of the vast majority of the people of India. One of the oldest living religions in the world, Hinduism is unique among the world religions in that it had no single founder but grew over a period of 4,000 years in syncretism with the religious and cultural movements of the Indian subcontinent. Hinduism is composed of innumerable sects and has no well-defined ecclesiastical organization. Its two most general features are the caste system and acceptance of the Veda as the most sacred scriptures.
   
   
4. Host demon: ''Gift horse. Mouth.''
   The host is referencing the saying ''Never look a gift horse in the mouth.'' which basically means don't question something good that happens to you.
   
   
5. Host demon: ''All my life I thought I was crazy. That I had ghosts in my head or something. Simply because I could hear music. Of course I didn't know it was music. All I knew was that it was something beautiful and, and painful, and right, and I was the only one who could hear it. Then I wound up here and heard Aretha for the first time... ''
   The host is probably referencing soul singer Aretha Franklin.
   
   
6. Host demon: ''Hey, I'd rather have a hydrochloric acid facial. I'd rather invite a hive of wasps to nest in my throat. I'd rather sit through a junior high school production of Cats! You see where I'm going with this?''

   The Titanic was a British liner that sank on the night of April 14-15, 1912, after crashing into an iceberg in the North Atlantic, South of Newfoundland. More than 1,500 lives were lost. The Titanic, thought to be the fastest ship afloat and almost unsinkable, was on her maiden voyage and carried many notables among the more than 2,200 persons aboard. Cordelia mentioned the 1997 film Titanic in I Will Remember You and Buffy mentioned the ship in Living Conditions.
   
   
10. Gunn: ''Yo, that was phat.''
    Phat is American slang for ''pretty hot and tempting.''
    
    
11. Host demon: ''Back up Copernicus, that's suns!''
    Nicholas Copernicus (1473-1543) was a Polish astronomer. After studying astronomy at the University of Kraków, he spent a number of years in Italy studying various subjects, including medicine and canon law. He lectured c.1500 in Rome on mathematics and astronomy; in 1512 he settled in Frauenburg, East Prussia, where he had been nominated canon of the cathedral. There he performed his canonical duties and also practiced medicine, but the work that immortalized him is De revolutionibus orbium coelestium, in which he set forth his beliefs concerning the universe, known as the Copernican system. That treatise, which was dedicated to Pope Paul III, was probably completed by 1530 but was not published until 1543, when Copernicus was on his deathbed. Modern astronomy was built upon the foundation of the Copernican system.

13. Gunn: ''I don't get it, why are they afraid of Xena?''
    Xena is the title character of the adventure television series Xena: Warrior Princess, played by Lucy Lawless. It should be noted that a number of supporting actors from Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Angel have also worked on Xena: Warrior Princess, and that in one episode of Xena: Warrior Princess they even made mention light of Buffy, when a play mentioned in the episode The Play's The Thing 4.17 was called ''Buffus the Bachi Slayer''. In Xena's world the Bachi are blood drinking women who turn into wolves and serve the god Bachus. Xena was also referenced by Willow in Halloween.
    
    
14. Wesley: ''I was always horrified by those stories about the Tower of London.''
    The Tower of London is an ancient fortress in London, England, just east of the city and on the north bank of the Thames, covering about 13 acres. Now used mainly as a museum, it was a royal residence in the Middle Ages. Later it was a jail for illustrious prisoners. The Tower is enclosed by a dry moat, within which are double castellated walls surrounding the central White Tower. It has a web site at http://www.londontower.org/.
    
    
15. Host demon: ''Locked me in a room, pushed me around, asked a bunch of questions. Your standard film noir.''
    Film noir is a type of crime film featuring cynical malevolent characters in a sleazy setting and an ominous atmosphere that is conveyed by shadowy photography and forboding background music. 1. Gunn: ''Previously on Angel.''
   Belonging - Landokmar of the Deathwok Clan comes through a portal. Angel fights him and the host recognizes him as his cousin. A producer tells Cordelia to show more cleavage. Cordelia says she just wanted to act. Gunn finds out a friend was killed by vampires. Cordelia, Angel and Wesley look for Fred in the library. They find a book that opened the portal. They send Landokmar back, but they lose Cordelia too. Cordelia wakes up in another dimension.
   
   
2. Wesley: ''I was always horrified by those stories about the tower of London.''
   Angel: ''Wasn't that bad.''
   Angel #2 - Angel was imprisoned in the Tower of London in 1856 after killing a girl, but managed to escape.

The episode title Over The Rainbow is a song from the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz.

Winifred is the 31st reoccurring non-star character on the show. She was last seen in Belonging.

There are two inconsistencies in the closed captioning. First when Wesley tries to explain why Angel isn't burning from the sunlight. Although Wesley says ''Well, it is another dimension, perhaps their sun...'' the captioning says ''Well, it is another dimension, perhaps there's some...''. In the scene where the constable rides to town to see Angel and crew, you see two green demons running down the street. Although they say nothing the captions say that are yelling ''Make way for the constable! Make way for the constable!''

When this episode was released on DVD it included a commetary track by the director, Fred Keller.

New name for Angel: Unworthy Trash (by Constable Narwek).

New name for Cordelia: The venerable monarch of Pylea, general for the Ravenous Legions, eater of our enemies' flesh, prelate of the sacrificial blood rights, and sovereign procouncul of death (by Constable Narwek).

Mathew:

I was a bit underwhelmed buy the slowness of this episode. I would have prefered they hadn't spent over half the episode just deciding who would go and how. I was disappointed at the use of the character of Fred. Don't we have enough jabbering insane people on Buffy these days?
