Dear Boy - 2ADH05
The Long: After a ''Previously on Angel'' segment (see Continuity #1) we see Angel getting up at Angel
Investigations where meets Cordelia and Wesley, but he is obviously still very
sleepy. Cordelia figures they are out of money and need a paying client. She
gets a vision about a demon who has people fighting over how to worship it.
As Wesley tries to find the demon in his books Angel nods off and dreams of
Darla being there with him. He snaps out of it and rejoins the waking world
as they figure out that the demon is held up in a water tank built over the
cursed land which was once home to St. Bridget's convent and sacred American
Indian burial ground. They contact Gunn and
head out to the water tank where they discover humans fighting it out in
front of a Thrall demon. They are spotted by the demon and suddenly the
humans all attack the crew. Angel acts strangely and attacks one guy over and
over, but Gunn is able to ax the demon and the fight ends. They have to pull
Angel off the poor guy he's beating the tar out of. Angel walks off
uninterested and later ends up in a crowd of people where he spots Darla!
In a flashback to 1860 London, Angel catches up with Darla who just drained
Lord Nicholes and a street walker. She has a surprise for him and takes
him to see Drusilla, an innocent girl who has the power of visions. Angel
starts to plan how to hurt her. In the present Angel follows Darla, but
loses her in the crowd. The next morning at Angel Investigations Cordelia
and Wesley are interviewing a man about a case where his wife, who he
thought got abducted by aliens regularly, might really be having an affair.
Angel walks in but seems uninterested in the case. Angel walks off and
Wesley shows the man out (see Reference #1).
Angel and Cordelia talk, but as Cordelia reams
him out over his actions he smells and strokes her hair which completely
freaks her out (see Reference #2). Wesley returns and Angel apologizes. He explains how he saw
Darla but they are skeptical (see Continuity #2-#4). He confesses his recent dreams about her.
In Lindsey's office Darla and Lindsey talk about how Angel is falling apart.
Lindsey says they don't want him dead, they want him evil. Darla flirts
with Lindsey then she tells how she hates what happened to Angel. Lindsey
prepares an envelope which ends up being delivered to Kate by another
detective. Kate and the detective talk about how she has become obsessed
with bizarre cases (see Reference #3). She opens the envelope to discover it contains
information about Angel now living in the Hyperion Hotel. At another
hotel Cordelia, Wesley and Angel are spying on their client's wife, who is
meeting with a man for an afternoon romp in the sack. They covertly take
pictures and record them at the bar, but as the two go off to get a room
Angel stops them and tells them her husband knows everything. He advises
her to either stop the affair or breakup with her husband, because he can't
stand spying on them like this. Cordelia is pissed royally, but then Angel
spots Darla walking by and confronts her. Saying she's Diedra Cramer, she
pretends to not know him and security moves to protect her. She claims her
husband Stephen is outside and she runs to him, passing through sunlight,
which shocks Angel, she's obviously not a vampire.
Angel, Cordelia and Wesley return to Angel Investigations as Cordelia rants
about Angel's actions. Wesley says Angel made a mistake, but Angel
insists Darla's back but she's human. Angel tells Cordelia to try to find
the home of the Cramer's. Angel bums money off Wesley for the cover charge
and goes to Cataras, where he sings his heart out for the demons in the
crowd, then apologies. When he asks the mystic about Darla, but he just
warns him to give up on Darla and move on (see Reference #4). At Angel Investigations Cordelia
gets a call from Angel and gives the address for the Cramer's. Wesley is
worried about Angel going crazy, so he readies a tranquilizer gun and calls
Gunn for help. Angel shows up outside the Cramer's house and watches
them through the window. Darla and the husband pretend to eat dinner as
Darla gets her trap ready, with Lindsey connected via radio and a hired
guard waiting in the house. At Angel Investigations Gunn is explained
how Angel goes evil at times, and is taken aback (see Reference #5). Back in the past Angel
and Darla celebrate his massacre of a convent, then they make out as
Drusilla rants insanely, the only survivor of all the horror, she's clearly
gone off her rocker. Angel explains how he plans to turn Dru into a
vampire so she is tormented by madness forever. Darla calls the police
and pretends that Angel is breaking in the house, then she signals the
guard who vamps out and hits her, then drains the husband. As Angel runs
in hearing the screaming she pretends Angel killed him. The police show
up and try to arrest Angel.
Back at Angel Investigations Kate reads off Gunn's rap sheet, but Cordelia
defends him. When Kate mentions how Angel supposedly broke in the house Gunn
asks how he got in uninvited, being a vampire. Wesley finds an old photo
of Darla and shows it to Kate and she starts to realize something is going
on. In the water tank Darla is making out with Angel, but he stops
and wants to know what her game is. He realizes she's trying to rob him
of his soul. He says that she has a soul too and will start to feel guilty for
her evil. He says that she never made him happy. Darla throws a hissy fit
over this. He says she has a second chance just like he did, but she insists
he had darkness in him before she ever sired him. At Angel Investigations
Kate and her officers leave, but she insists that despite Angel's good
intentions she blames Angel for innocents who die in the crossfire of his
battles between good and evil. Sunrise comes. In the water tank Darla
and Angel are still arguing (see Reference #7). She teases him and he grabs her throat, but
she pulls a cross and burns his chest. She walks out into the sunlight,
saying she still wants him. Angel just stands there stunned. After nightfall
Angel returns to his room, where Wesley and Cordelia visit to make sure
he's all right. Wesley warns there will be more trouble, but Angel says he's
looking forward to it.
The random monster this week is a Thrall demon. It set itself up on cursed land and had two groups of humans fighting it out over how to worship it. Once it was killed the humans seemed to come to their senses. According to the closed captioning it's name is Turfog. Personally it reminded me of the hungry beast from the camp horror film Terrorvision.
Drusilla was a human girl with ''the sight'', the power to see the
future. It's not known how, if at all, this power could be related to
Cordelia's visions.
Sherlock Homes is a character created by Arthur Conan Doyle. Not simply the
greatest and most famous of fictional detectives, Sherlock Holmes is quite
possibly one of the most famous personages, real or fictional, in the
history of the world. Parodies and pastiches far outnumbering Doyle's own
work have been written. Holmes first appeared in a novel entitled A Study in
Scarlet, a story of revenge, rooted in the American West, bearing fruit in
London. The London parts of the story were told by a young ex-army doctor,
John H. Watson. Sherlock is seen here portrayed by actor Peter Cushing (1913-1994),
who portrayed him in two films and a television series.
Philip Marlowe is another fictional detective, this one created by Raymond
Chandler. He was portrayed by Humphrey Bogart (1899-1957) in the 1946 film The Big Sleep. Plot: Summoned by
the dying General Sternwood, Philip Marlowe is asked to deal with several
problems that are troubling his family. Marlowe finds that each problem
centers about the disappearance of Sternwood's favoured employee who has
left with a mobster's wife. Each of the problems becomes a cover for
something else as Marlowe probes.
